Educational Activity Mats

The Story Behind Our Mats

Drawing Connections activity mats were born from the idea that worksheets and workbooks are sometimes too small and difficult to complete when first learning how to write. I also took into consideration people who, like my mom, have lost the use of their hands due to stroke or other injuries, and need to continually practice their writing skills during therapy.

I took the idea that some people may need a little assistance with writing practice and brainstormed how it could be made easier, and also fun! I remembered doing "dot-to-dots" when I was younger-I loved them! But when I introduced dot-to-dots to my four-year-old son Thomas, they were too difficult for him to complete in the activity books that we had on hand. The pages and numbers were too small and he got frustrated.

I combined two ideas together-handwriting practice should be fun and it should also be attainable by people of all abilities-and created reusable activity mats! All of the mats are designed by me with the help of Thomas's input-and he has a LOT of input as a four year old!

I have worked hard to find the best quality material for our mats at an affordable price in order to use our mats over and over and over and...over! Each mat (or order) comes with a wet-erase marker and eraser for your convenience.

We hope you find our mats fun, educational, and timeless. Happy writing!

About Us

Craig, Thomas, Jenna

Owners

Welcome to Drawing Connections! We are the Hyde family: Craig (engineer by day, super dad and husband by night), Jenna (teacher by trade, artist, mom, wife, and grad school student by night), and Thomas (the best little buddy and son we could every ask for and the inspiration for everything we do). We are a family of dreamers! We dream of bringing useful products to our friends, family, and far beyond! We are always looking for ways to make mundane or difficult tasks easier or more fun. Thomas was diagnosed with Autism in 2019 and we have striven to assist him in any way we can to make learning enjoyable. When we noticed he was having difficulty with handwriting, coloring, and scribbling (the task of literally putting pencil to paper was not attainable or anything he wanted anything to do with), a new product was born-our activity mats!

If you are looking for a fun activity to promote the following: counting, alphabet order, hand-eye coordination, handwriting skills, fine motor skills, concentration, focus, and confidence...

...we have the solution for you! We hope our mats can make learning a little bit more fun for the people in your life as well!
